The Overberg is becoming increasingly well known for its exceptional wine (and charming wine farms). Festivals are a wonderful way to get a taste for what the region has to offer.
If you missed Botriver’s Barrels & Beards earlier this month, make sure you make it to Elgin’s Cool Wine and Country festival this weekend. Less than an hour from the Mother City, the naturally beautiful Elgin Valley is a somewhat undiscovered gem of the Overberg as its true character is only revealed once you leave the N2 and meander through its rolling valleys. It also has a rather unique climate which has made the area perfect for planting pears and apples – and, more recently, the cultivating of vines.
With 18 participating wine farms open from 9am to 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday, offering wine tastings, food, entertainment, events and fun for the kids it’s a great way to spend the long weekend. Be sure to visit our old family friends, the Cluvers and look out for our collaborative project, a special apple ‘MCC’: Cluver & Jack cider.
Tickets are R120, available online from webtickets or at Peregrine Farm Stall
