Sponsorship Spotlight: Team Africa Le Mans at Creventic Barcelona 24-Hour

Team Africa Le Mans is delighted to be among the entrants of the Creventic Barcelona 24-hour race on 14-15 September 2024. The details of Team Africa Le Mans are at www.teamafricalemans.com.

This is the fourth international race entered by Team Africa Le Mans outside of South Africa, all of which have been in support of a charitable anti-poaching cause. In 2016 the team finished third in class at the Paul Ricard 24-hour in France, a highly competitive event with over 50 entries. In 2017 it entered the 12-hour of Imola (from which they were forced to drop out with diff trouble in the last hour while lying first in class), and the 24-hour at Misano, where again they finished third in class. In 2019, the team entered the Road to Le Mans in a Bentley GT3, the first time a South African team had entered the Le Mans weekend. Team Africa Le Mans prides itself on being a team of friends, all unpaid volunteers, including the mechanics and drivers, which contains some of the greatest names in the world of sportscar racing. This time Emanuele Pirro (a five-time winner of Le Mans) is among them, joining the former world sportscar champion and F1 driver Jan Lammers, and multiple Le Mans and Daytona champion Jeroen Bleekemolen along with Cris Pirro (Emanuele’s son, who is a performance engineer for Sauber F1) and the team patron, Dr Greg Mills, a South African political analyst and author, including of eight books on motorsport.

Team Africa Le Mans races with small financial and other in-kind contributions made by friends, including Bruce Jack Wines, Equaliser agriculture equipment, Vipingo Ridge in Mombasa, Origen Oils, and Quantum Dynamics. The following motto sums up the spirit behind the enterprise ‘It’s impossible said pride. It’s risky said experience. It’s pointless said reason. Give it a try whispered the heart … .’

Perhaps we are a throwback to a different age, or just plain naive. Whatever the case, we are thrilled to be giving it another try at Barcelona.
