Agulhas Wine Triangle, South Africa – In an exciting strategic partnership, the recently revitalised Zoetendal Vineyards, and winemaker Bruce Jack have joined forces with Black Oystercatcher founder, Dirk Human.
This collaboration heralds a new era for this pioneering brand and super-premium quality area. The joint venture will amplify Black Oystercatcher’s market reach, increase the group’s production capabilities, and demonstrate a shared vision of sustainable, high-quality winemaking.
Besides uniting three respected and established entities in South African wine, each team brings a strong brand and a unique set of strengths and advantages to the collaboration.
Black Oystercatcher Wines enjoys a fiercely loyal following and strong local presence for its award-winning portfolio. Bruce Jack, chosen by Drinks Business Magazine as one of the Top 100 winemakers in the world, is globally renowned for his innovative winemaking. And a revitalised Zoetendal Vineyards brings proven marketing expertise and the ability to penetrate new, high-end markets. The joint venture will see the alignment of the Black Oystercatcher brand, the Zoetendal brand, and The Berrio brand.
The partners believe this collaboration will allow them to meet the rising domestic and export demand for premium South African wines, especially from cool climate vineyards.
To achieve this, they have begun renovating the Black Oystercatcher winery and have embarked on an ambitious vineyard planting program. A strengthened distribution network will facilitate the increased demand, and plans are in place to revitalise the Black Oystercatcher Cellar Door.

In alignment with Dirk Human’s long-standing commitment to sustainable viticulture and the environment, the partners will continue the practices that protect the unique Cape Agulhas ecosystem, guarding the integrity and life of its soils and biodiversity for future generations.
The business will continue to provide “Contract Crush” winemaking services to other premium wine producers who source grapes from the Agulhas Wine Triangle and further afield.

This is a direct result of the cool climate, the unique soils and the cold wind off the ocean.
